An Introduction to Aging at Home

May 18, 2015 By Karen Leave a Comment

Most seniors will tell you they want to age in place right in the comfort of their own home. It’s easy to see why, given that home is familiar and comfortable. Aging at home also allows seniors to keep up with their current social networks instead of needing to develop new friends.

However, stairs, clutter, unfriendly bathrooms, and hard-to-reach spots in the home can turn your house into a living hazard. Thankfully, simple modifications and small changes are often enough to make the home safer and help the senior to remain in place for as long as possible.

In this video, our partner Karen Ling, OTR/L (an occupational therapist) discusses the concept of aging in place. She provides examples by walking you through various problem areas in the home and offers suggestions for making your home safer and easier to navigate for seniors. This is just a glimpse into the value of creating a more livable space for seniors.
